Honor of The Frog
TGFN Kids wishes to honor students, and their teachers, schools or groups for
outstanding science, environmental and community accomplishments by
awarding them an "Honor of the Frog" certificate, and featuring them on this site.

Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Youth Clubs
For Outstanding Stewardship of the Planet
Desert Rats, Junior Docents, Youth Interpreters, and Earth Camps under the
direction of Amy Orchard, Education Specialist at the Desert Museum, have left
no trace behind on all their field trips, presented conservation programs to the
public, interpreted the animals and plants of the Sonoran Desert, and promoted
stewardship in their schools.

For Developing a Sustainability Curriculum for High School Science
Jeff is a visionary teacher. He incorporates real world study into multidisciplinary
lessons that not only provide standards based instruction but also equip
students with practical knowledge they can use to contribute to a sustainable
future.
Rivera Elementary Roots and Shoots Club
For Establishing Personal Stewardship of the Earth as a Priority
Rivera Elementary is the newest school in the Sunnyside School District. Debra
Summers, 2nd grade school teacher, began the club in 2006. The principal of
the school, Patricia Gamez, wants to make the entire school a Roots and Shoots
Club! They planted trees on Make a Difference Day.
San Miguel High School Honors Science Club
For Bio-diesel Fuel Production
San Miguel H.S. students have cooked up their own bio-diesel fuel that is being
used by the school in their vehicles. The students are all seniors, planning to
attend college next fall. Cesar Romero has been their unofficial leader; James
Hayes (Student Body President) and Edward Sanchez have been the principle
researchers on this project, with a few other classmates being roped into it from
time to time. They have been working under the auspices of the Seawater
Foundation, and CEO of the Foundation, Carl Hodges.
Sunnyside Unified School District Learning Community and Students
For establishing a District-Wide Make a Difference Day
SUSD participation in Make a Difference Day has created more than 2,000
volunteers working at as many as 25 schools to accomplished projects that
make each school a great learning environment. Many of the schools planted
trees and developed green spaces at their school.
